Information Security Risk Management and the Data Protection Act 1998

Information Security Risk Management and the Data Protection Act 1998

The UK Data Protection Act 1998 is one of the most important pieces of legislation affecting businesses in both the UK and Gibraltar.

This act, places responsibilities not only on a company or organization, but also personally on the company directors.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679) goes further, with 4% of corporate annual turnover as potential fines, as well as individual directors personally liable, for breaches of the regulations.

For this reason, it is imperative that you, as a director of a company, understand the contents of both the UK Data Protection Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the implications for you as a director of an organization.
